How to Know When Your Comfort at Work Has Started Limiting Your Growth

There is nothing wrong with being comfortable at work.

In fact, comfort can be a sign that you’ve done something right.

You understand your responsibilities. You know your coworkers. You can handle most problems without panicking. You don’t have to spend every evening worrying about tomorrow’s workload.

That’s a good place to be.

But comfort has another side.

Sometimes you become so familiar with your work that you stop noticing how little it is asking from you.

The job isn’t difficult anymore.

The problems are predictable.

The decisions are familiar.

The mistakes are rare.

The routine is manageable.

And because everything feels fine, you assume your career must be fine too.

That isn’t always true.

There is a difference between being comfortable because you’ve become capable and being comfortable because you’ve stopped being challenged.
