A job doesn’t have to provide every experience you’ll ever need.
That’s unrealistic.
Its value may be that it gives you a strong foundation.
The important thing is whether you can keep adding useful dimensions to that foundation.
If your job gives you experience that is relevant to your future, deepen it.
If it gives you useful experience but not enough range, look for opportunities at the edges.
If it gives you mostly more of the same, deliberately create new challenges.
And if it simply cannot provide the experience your next career step requires, don’t be afraid to look elsewhere.
The goal isn’t to collect experience for its own sake.
It’s to build the kind of experience that changes what you can do next.
Because years of work can make you experienced.
But the right experiences can make you ready for opportunities you couldn’t realistically pursue before.
